Whatever age or subject you plan to teach, you can start your degree at Oregon Coast Community College

All teaching licenses require a 4-year degree. Students attending part-time will need more than 4 years to complete their program.

Coursework at OCCC:

All pre-Education students can complete required general education and pre-education courses during their first and second years. Full-time students can be ready to transfer to University with an AAOT after two years at OCCC. Future middle and high school teachers can be ready to transfer with an Oregon Transfer module after one year at OCCC.

Courses for Oregon Transfer Module (OTM) for Middle/High school teachers

• Writing: Two courses of college-level composition (WR121, WR1 22)
• Oral Communication: COMM 111
• Mathematics: MTH 105 or 111
• Arts and Letters: Three courses.
• Social Sciences: Three courses.
• Science/Math/Computer Science: Three courses, including at least one biological or physical science with a lab.
• Pre-education students should consult with their transfer University advisor when selecting courses in their discipline area (Social Science, Language Arts, Math, Science)
• Pre-Education students are encouraged to also complete ED 224, Foundations of Education, during spring term.

Coursework at the University:

After transfer students will complete one year of coursework with a focus on foundational knowledge and teaching skills including serving diverse learners and curriculum design. The final year of study requires three full-time terms of student teaching as well as coursework on pedagogy and classroom management.
