President's Message

Welcome to Oregon Coast Community College!

OCCC's new Interim President, Bruce KoikeYour college was created by public vote in 1987 to serve the educational needs of the residents of Lincoln County. We are dedicated to fulfilling that commitment and will continue providing quality learning opportunities for people in the community. Since the College's inception, the mission has broadened to include college transfer, professional/ technical, workforce-related courses, and soon, Community Education.

Interested parties can expect to find comprehensive community college services at OCCC providing academic, professional, and community education. The administration, faculty, and staff  create an engaging educational environment that serves community members.  The administration is committed to responding to faculty, staff, and student concerns, and working with the local community members in achieving long-range goals.

One of the principal features of Oregon Coast Community College is its emphasis on quality instruction to meet the needs of local residents. Small classes in a caring environment and dedicated faculty are important aspects of OCCC. The College also encourages academic excellence and celebrates the cultural diversity in the community

Enabled by the passage of a 2004 Bond Measure and capital construction funding from the State, Oregon Coast Community College developed three distinct campuses located in Lincoln City, Waldport and Newport.  Thank you Lincoln County for investing in present and future generations of coastal residents.

Each year, these facilities serve over 2,000 motivated individuals who are investing in their future through education. The college offers specialized programs in the discipline of Nursing and Aquarium Science.  New programs in Criminal Justice, Medical Assistants, Home Health Aide, and Acute Care Nursing Assistant will be offered in the fall of 2012, pending approval by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education.

Additional options include extending courses to high school juniors and seniors through an Expanded Options program with Lincoln County School District.  This represents a significant savings to the student when the cost of attendance at OCCC is compared with identical classes offered at other institutions.  Minimizing educational debt should be considered as a criteria to selecting a college or university to attend.

Though economic conditions are difficult for both individual and the College, we will continue to serve Lincoln County in a positive and effective manner.  We pledge to do our best in helping all Lincoln County residents.  We welcome the opportunity to provide you with a hand in achieving your goals and personal aspirations.  See you on campus!

Bruce Koike
