OCCC’s public access computers are available for use by the general public (people not enrolled
in classes or affiliated with the College’s instruction or operation) within the following guidelines:

  • Computer users must follow the guidelines for acceptable and unacceptable use stated in the OCCC Computer and Information Use Policy and Harassment (Policy 830, Section 1., B.), as well as Sexual Harassment (Policy 820). Violation of these policies will result in denial of use of the College’s public access computers. (Copies of this policy are available from the College Library and Student Services Departments).
  • Use of the College’s public access computers by the general public is subject to use limitations depending on demand levels by users affiliated with the College. The College reserves the right to limit access to these computers as needed.
  • Use of the college’s public access computers by the general public is limited to a maximum of one hour per day.
  • Users under the age of sixteen must have a signed copy of the written Permission To Use OCCC Computers release form on file with the OCCC Student Services Department in order to use the college’s public access computers and information services.

Patron Responsibilities and Conduct

Each user is responsible for the selection of sites and should be aware that other computer users may be exposed to what is displayed.

Rules governing use:

  1. Computer use is limited to one session per day with a limit of one hour. Extra time may be allotted at the discretion of OCCC staff.
  2. Patrons must have basic computer skills. Library staff is available for general assistance in using the computer; however, staff members are not expected to train patrons individually in the use of application programs.
  3. For your audio needs, headphones are provided at each workstation. In case of missing headphones, inquire at the Circulation window.
Unallowable uses

Patrons may not:

  1. Shout out across the room for assistance. If you need help, please approach the front counter and ask respectfully.
  2. View, print display, send or receive images, text or graphics of obscene materials or material that violates laws relating to child pornography.
  3. Engage in any activity that is deliberately offensive or creates an intimidating or hostile environment.
  4. Violate copyright or software licensing agreements.
  5. Gain unauthorized access to any computing, information or communications devices or resources.
  6. Damage, alter or degrade computer equipment, peripherals, software or configurations. Patrons may be liable for damage incurred.
Liabilities

Oregon Coast Community College Library assumes no responsibility for any damage, direct or indirect, that users or anyone else may suffer through the library’s access to the Internet. All public Internet users at Oregon Coast Community College Library agree to hold the library and college harmless from any claims, losses, damages, and obligations related to:

  1. Infringement of U.S. Copyright Law governing the reproduction, distribution, adaptation, public performance and public display of copyrighted material.
  2. The use and/or accuracy of information obtained from the library’s electronic information system.
  3. Damage to non-library software or hardware resulting from viruses downloaded via the Library’s Internet services.
Failure to comply

Failure to comply with the Public Use Guidelines will result in a request to discontinue the activity. In the event that the activity is not discontinued, future Internet use may be denied and the patron may be asked to leave the library facility. Persons asked to leave the premises who do not comply may be subject to arrest.

Computers and Computer Viruses

Oregon Coast Community College is not responsible for loss of student work, data, software, or hardware caused by computer viruses or any malfunction of college computers, including all computer hardware and software. Students are responsible for maintaining virus-free data disks before using college computer equipment and for storing data files on diskettes. The College is not responsible for data files left on college computer hard drives.
